Jean Wainwright Salver 2013
This year’s winner, Pete Ritchie was presented the award by Robin Wombill. Please read his speech:
” I’ve known this runner since I joined the club and I’ve never seen them give less than 100% at every race they’ve entered. If they didn’t get the result they wanted it wasn’t for lack of effort on their part, it was just how it went on the day. Once, just once, I managed to beat them at the Aviemore Half Marathon – at the time they were waiting for heart surgery !
This year they’they’ve completed: two marathons in Scotland, Cape Wrath in the far northwest and Moray in the northeast. one in Wales at Snowdonia and one in Melbourne Australia plus the ultimate Scottish challenge – the West Highland Way race. About five weeks after this I was marshalling at Dundee and saw them thundering down the road towards me in the half marathon – I still had trouble walking five weeks after my West Highland Way effort ! I think Jean would agree they’re a worthy recipient of this trophy and I’m really pleased to be able to present it to Pete Ritchie. Finally, I’ve just found out that Pete nipped down south and ran a marathon in Manchester last weekend.”
