Welcome to Perth Road Runners!
We pride ourselves on being a friendly running club and have proudly brought runners together in Perth for almost 40 years. Our philosophy is to inspire and be inspired; all we ask is that you have a pair of running shoes and a sense of humour. We will take care of the rest.
Proud as we are of our name, it only tells a fraction of the story nowadays. We don’t just run on tarmac. As you’ll see from these pages, we’re every bit as committed to – and active on – hills, trails and cross-country. If you like road running, you’ll find a home with us. But if you prefer softer, twistier running, you’ll also find a home with us.
We have a broad range of ages and abilities in the club. Also, as of 1st April 2024, we have lowered our entry age to 16, and are thus inviting 16- and 17-year-olds to join Perth Road Runners for the first time in our history.
We meet twice a week: 1) always on Tuesdays and 2) alternating between Wednesdays and Thursdays:
- On Tuesdays (6:30pm), we generally meet at Bell’s Sports Centre (outside) for our traditional Club Run (although note that the third Tuesday of each month now sees us out ‘on tour’ outwith Perth itself, see link below). We tend to run for around 1 hour at these sessions; the distance ange can be anything from 4-5 miles up to (and very occasionally more than) 10 miles. These runs alternate between a social run (all runners run at a leisurely pace together) and group pace runs (various groups at various paces). For more details, see here.
- Every other Wednesday (6:30pm), we have organised coaching sessions (we have a team of qualified coaches) at the George Duncan Athletics Arena, North Muirton for speed sessions over varying distances. Newcomers need not be intimidated by the track! These sessions are every bit as useful and fun for the beginner as they are for the elite runner. Note: entry to the GDAA on these evenings is via the eastern/Community Campus end of the track (ie the gate on the home bend) and not via the western/Grammar School end. For more details, see here.
- On Thursdays (6:30 pm) of the other week (ie alternating weeks with the Wednesday sessions), we normally train in the Kinnoull and Deuchny Hill areas (when we are on British Summer Time) and around Bertha Park (when on GMT), these sessions being mainly hill and trail reps/intervals. We meet at the Jubilee car park at Kinnoull/Deuchny and Bertha Park School in the winter. For more details, see here.
The dates and details for these training evenings can also be found (and checked) in our Events Diary. The club’s three race series (see Racing) and various internal club events (Club Classics) also appear on that Events Diary. Racing – and ideally defeating – Kinross Road Runners at our annual Mob Match is also a key annual objective.
At our Tuesday Club Runs, we have a ‘Meet & Greet’ set-up where one of our members will welcome you to the club and run with you, introducing you to some of our members who would likely be running at the same pace as you. This is a great way to meet us and see what the club is about. We very much invite you to one of our Tuesday sessions as a taster session and to meet us all.
For visitors and newcomers to the Perth area, we have a (growing) page of Recommended Runs you might like to explore and/or experiment with.
Joining the club is easy. Click the link to our Entry Central membership page. There, you can fill in your details online and pay the daftly reasonable £15.00 membership fee (£10 for 16- and 17-year-olds). As a member, you are entitled to other benefits too. We highly recommend that our members also join Scottish Athletics to (among other benefits) save money on race entry fees. There’s a heap more info on our Membership page.
If you have any questions about who we are, what we do and/or joining us, do please send an email to us here.
We look forward to running with you!
